Disney Fundraising

Due to the weather, and schedule conflicts we are asking each band student to wash just one car (more if they want, the class with the most will recieve PIZZA!).  We will not be meeting in one place to do a traditional car wash.  Pledge sheets and donations are due Friday September 28th.

All pledges/donations will go to the students trip cost.  The Disney trip in JUNE OF 2014, will be for 8-12 grade students.  Students not eligible for Disney will have thier money on record for the next band event, i.e. Worlds of Fun trip, etc.

The cost of this trip is unknown at this time, but is projected to be between $600-700 per person.  We encourage the students to fundraise as much as possible.  Students that fundraise over the amount can apply the extra to parent tickets!

Please email questions to  Please avoid sending them to  ;-)

"Music Lab/Studio,".....YES!!!!!!!

I am very excited our music department has a new music lab and website to improve our teaching and musicianship!!  Percussion students, check out the percussion page, and rhythm section players look at the cool videos on your page as well!

If you are reading this, come to me, Mr. Trew, and tell me the password "scrum-diddly" and I will enter your name into a drawing for a free candy bar and soda at the end of the quarter.  Again, the new ideas are fun and exciting, and be patient as we learn what works and what does not work :-)!!!!!

The Music Lab Room and Equipment

Our new music lab is located in the middle school field-house.  The room is adjacent to the stage and on the second floor.  This room was formally the office for the head coach.  Five years ago, the coach gave the room to us to use as a jazz band room.  Considering the tremendous resource this room provides, we made the decision to take our jazz band out of the schedule and use the room full time starting next year.  The jazz band will now come out of regular band class to rehearse.

Here is a list of the equipment currently in the room.  Much of this equipment was savaged from our High School library after they cleaned up one of their back audio/visual rooms.  The best free item we gained was the projector.
  • Projector
  • 16 Channel Powered Mixer with Effects
  • 6 Channel Small Mixer
  • Speakers
  • CD Changer
  • Trap Set
  • Practice Pads
  • Full Weighted Key Keyboard
  • Cannon Laser Printer / Scanner (pictured below)
  • Computer (Not Pictured)
The room is approximately 15X15 and will hold 26 students with stands.  We will average 15-20 students every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  We will host a Percussion day each Thursday and a Jazz Rhythm Section day each Friday.  Students will then rotate over three a week period.  Our daily lessons will include the use of the audio-visual equipment and a rear projection screen.

The cost of a rear projection screen is expensive, so we will be building one from scratch.  If I have time next week, I will begin construction on this project.  The plans include building a frame with routed edge for the instillation of spandex for the middle section of the screen.  Compare the frame to a screen door.  The video was my inspiration for the screen.

Brother Printer MFC7860DW Wireless Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax A few days ago, I went to Staples and purchased a new Laser Multi-Function Brother printer for our new music lab.  We will be using this printer to scan exercises and print custom Finale worksheets and etudes for students to perform.  Here are the stats for this printer.  Since it is a networked printer, the band room across campus can send documents between rooms.
